How to Keep your Pool Covers Clean

Pool covers are used to protect the swimming pool from any debris and other bacteria. Swimming pools must be closed every winter season to prevent it from being damaged due to freezing water and snow. During winter, swimming pools should be drained 18 inches below the skimmers and must also be covered fully. But before putting the pool covers and after it was used, it must be cleaned just like other swimming pool supplies and the cleanliness must be kept. To do this, here are some tips:

  • 1. Put a submersible pump in the area of the pool cover that is being submerged in the deepest part of the water.
  • 2. Put the output hose in a wide place and turn on the pool pump.
  • 3. Make sure to always check the pump. The pool pump takes in water and this process will also take those leaves in your swimming pool. By this, the pool pump’s intake apparatus will be cleared. Clearing this part can take place in a few days.
  • 4. If there are many fallen leaves and other unwanted debris in the swimming pool, better use a skimmer pole to take that debris off. Skimmer poles can be purchased in any pool supplies store. After you remove the leaves in the water, let the pump release amount of water for the pool cover to be cleaned well.
  • 5. You can now place the pool cover on the swimming pool while you are filling the pool with water. This will ensure the cleanliness of the water before you use it in the summer or spring season. Let the pool cover be there until you are through.
  • 6. After completely filling the swimming pool with water, the pool cover must be removed when the pool will be used. With the help of 2-3 persons, let it be flat on the grounds.
  • 7. Clean the pool cover using a hose. Clean it until there is no debris and it completely dirt free. After cleaning, leave it in a dry and warm place where there is spring air.
  • 8. Before keeping it, dust it with some talcum powder and fold it well. Remember to keep it in a cool and dry place where it will stay safe for your next use.
